why is there a size limit on the avatars that are a link to another site? since this isn't supposed to use up your bandwidth?

I could be wrong, but once your avatar is linked into here, from either another site or from your computer, it is then saved here on the forum.... If you view the source of your of avatar image you will find it is no longer hosted from that other link.... but from alien-ufos...

Xander does it like this, so that there are no broken avatar links on the forum which can happen if outside links get broken... Something like that... I'm sure there's an easier way to explain it...

No your right Dingo smile.gif
Once you choose an avatar from another link it grabs it and it uploads it to the website biggrin.gif

Bad news on this I'm afriad: I was planning on letting free users have avatars that are stored elsewhere on the web, but it appears there isn't an option for that on the forum.

As a note, if I do find a way for this to happen, there would still be the same restrictions on the size of avatars hosted elsewhere. Avatars that are large in dimension are annoying for everyone and avatars that are large in file size take too long to load for those on slower connections. It's a matter of logic, even though it seems rather spoil-sportish.
