galaxy....we discussed this before....the average german foot soldier was doing as he was told....and therefore is just like any other soldier.....I'd have shot them just the same....but I'd have felt sorry....and had nightmares for the rest of my life.

However, hitler and his henchman were dirtbags that I would gladly have put a round through without hesitation or sympathy.....and if you are defending them then.... :finger:....right back at you

They probably didn't think we were dirt bags. They thought we were inferior. This is the problem with nationalism. It leads to delusions like that which can turn psychotic.
Calling them scum is an opinion, since it's a subjective word. But, calling them a psychotic group led by a sociopath who slowly slipped into absolute insanity, is fact.
They felt like they were doing the world good, as a result of their delusions. Many of them needed deep therapy, and the rest needed several rounds put in them.

xeno.....I agree....my goal would have been infuriate them like Vasily Zaytsev did.....if they wanted to put round through me....then all the better.

Some good info Mr T. As for what the nazi's actually achived remains debatable. i have seen some doco's which suggest that they certainly did make huge advances in technological systems etc Like them or not, (I would hope that given that it is the year 2009 the vast majority of us would not) we have to acknowledge the contribution they (the nazi party sciencist) made to our current level in not only in the field of aeronautics (did I spell that right lol) but also in the fields of optics (the germans are still the best manufacturers of binnoclurs), medicine (although one must ask if the deliberate and sadisitic experiments conducted on unwilling subjects, often without the forethought of pain relief, antiseptics etc, which ultimately led to the death of the vast majority of 'test'subject is worth the gains).

On the subject of Hitler and whether or not he was a dirt bag. I dont think there can be much of a 'reasonable' agruement that he was a despot. Here was a man (and I do use that word lightly) who crapped out at every turning point in his life who if it wasnt for a nation is total disaray (following the WW1 defeat) would have rotted in jail as just another incompendant loser.

Hitler was an insane megaumanic (a mega wanker), he was a drug addict, suffered from sphyless (sorry cant spell it - thing STD) made a habit of not referring to his personal psychic before making decisions and a hippocrite. According to Hitler the Jews where only a sub human species which needed to be wiped off the face of the planet, yet he untrusted his personal well being to a Jewish physican! The fool doesnt deserve to be called a dirt bag, Hell Im a dirt bag and Im nothng like him.

If we, as a species and planet gained only one thing from this little bugs regien of repugnance I would hope that it would be that we never allow the atrosities and madness which the nazi's brought upn the world to ever happen again.

I have maintained for some time now that it is both disturbing and sad that nearly all the advances made in technology and medicine have come about during times of conflict. as it appears that the only way we seem to advance as a species is by trying to find new ways to kill each other or put back together those wounded (so they may fight on or more to the point in an attempt to cushion the impact of war on the voters sitting at home watching the news reports of casualties) This happens (particularly in times of open conflict) because many research (both technological and medical) are lifted and or relaxed.
