US Freedom of Information Act and UFOs

I'd like to start this thread by discussing documents released or requested pertaining to Roswell and other incidents within the same time frame...

Steven Aftergood of Secrecy News writes that on July 28, 1995, the General Accounting Office published a report on the Roswell Incident that said all the Roswell records had been destroyed. Now it's been discovered that the CIA has destroyed the budget records for that period in Roswell also.

The records were demanded by New Mexico Congressman Stuart Schiff, now deceased. The report found that "some of the records concerning Roswell activities had been destroyed" and that "there was no information available regarding when or under what authority the records were destroyed."

In fact, all of the activity records for the Roswell Army Air Force Base between 1947 and 1952 had been destroyed, in direct violation of the law. No reason for the destruction of the records was ever found.

Now, it turns out that the CIA's budget records for the same period are missing. These budget reports would have revealed details of budgetary allocations, including possible allocations involving Roswell or other UFO-related activity. In response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit seeking declassification of the intelligence budget totals from 1947 and 1948, the Central Intelligence Agency says that it cannot find this information.

"We are unable to locate a document containing, or a series of documents from which we may deduce, the aggregate U.S. intelligence budget figure for Fiscal Year 1947," wrote Kathryn I. Dyer, CIA Information and Privacy Coordinator, in a June 27 letter to the Federation of American Scientists.

Likewise, "We are unable to locate a document containing, or a series of documents from which we may deduce, the aggregate U.S. intelligence budget figure for Fiscal Year 1948."

Deliberate and unlawful destruction of public information...but why all this over a 'weather balloon'?

It was a whether balloon! Jeez, they do that everytime one of them crashes, I thought you knew that!

Since the thread is about the Freedom of Infomation Act adn it looks like you want to talk about Roswell. There is a really interesting memo that was given to the Director of the FBI on March 22, 1950. I don't really know if it is about the Roswell crash but since I don't know of any other stories of any more UFOs crashing there.. I will say it is the same crash.

The body of the memo reads, An investigator for the Air Forces states that three so-called flying saucers has been recovered in New Mexico. They were described as being circular in shape with raised centers, approximately 50 feet in diameter. Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only 3 feet tall, dressed in metallic cloth of a very fine texture. Each body was bandaged in a manner similar to the blackout suits used by speed flyers and test pilots.

According to Mr. (Blacked out) informant, the saucers were found in New Mexico due to the fact that the Government has a very high-powered radar set-up in that area and it is believed the radar interferes with the controling mechanism of the saucers.

No futher evaluation was attempted by SA (blacked out) concerning the above.

I found this to be one of the more interesting memos that the FBI declassified because it talks about bodies, multiple saucers (3), and New Mexico (but sadly does not say where in New Mexico, which would be very helpful).

Anyways, I just decided to tell you about it incase you never seen it before.

wow nice story andpau66. I'll have to look into that a little more.
I realy need to check out these fbi documents.

tutu i find that story a little dodgy because it says CIA. While CIA does mean Centrall
Inteligance Agency, i must point out that the CIA has nothing to do with Domestic
details. In otherwords anything that happens on American soil is out of thier hands.
If they had a record keeping flaw for a budget at that time it would be linked
more than likely to something happening in europe that they would want to
cover up.
I would look for some big event that apeared to be catastrophic and was
hushed in
American news. But i Honestly doubt CIA would be involved in Roswell.
I have been interested in roswell only a little bit personaly. I know for a lot of
UFOers
it seems to be the grail of the phenomina , but i find too much has been said
and re-said and re-told to the point that its kinda turned into a plastic Jesus.

All this stuff has been found but nothing but drawings and testimony have been
brought to light. Its frustrating to re read allot of it for me. Anyways enough of me ..
I read that there were military trucks sighted speeding to a base with lage crates
around that same time. The crates were
suposedly full of wreckage parts that were collected in the desert.

Now if it was a weather balloon... it would all fit in one crate.

M..this thread is mainly about the deciet used in covering up documents which might explain UFOs. Now common sense tells us that when a person(s) uses deciet then they are hiding something...

Why not release document from the base which released the weather balloon in the first place? Where's the documents on the 'examination' of the balloon wreackage? If this thing, balloon or not, was transported in a military vehicle (and assuredly it was) where are the vehicle documents....trains, trucks, planes etc all keep manifests.

As a civil service employee or military personnel you are taught from the git go to document everything...because as they say...if it aint documented, it didnt happen..

Now there are documents...but we're not getting them...and that's in violation of the law (because some documents were evidently destroyed)...and the documents that we do get are blacked out despite the USAF's insistence that UFOs, if they do exist, dont pose a national security threat

one thing that everyone seem's to forget while trolling the vast archives of files that the act has opened to the world, is the misinformation that is given out at the time of the event/incident, i'm sure there is a mountain of story's in the media claiming to be everyday happening, (:eg "sheriffs dept confirmed to us at the daily babble, it was large meteor that flew past mr bloggs house last night, although the sheriff can't explain where mr bloggs got his sun tan from") when realy the incident was related to paranormal/extraterestrial events. i'm not saying the documents released by the act are not worth reading, what with thier cleverly blanked/blackend out spaces, what i am saying is the human race easly forgets/misinterprets important facts at the time of an incident such as eyewitness/ media reports, to give another eg, at the time of the "space shuttle columbia "accident, i was watching events unfold live on fox news channel, despite my horror, something didn't look right so i began recording, and later played back the tape in slow/still motion,and to my surprise i could see an object strike the shuttle then move a short distance behind following the shuttle as it entered the athmosphere, after about 20 minute of showing different angles of the break up, fox news retuned to the studio, when it resumed coverage, it never once shown the clips i had taped, now if what i seen on the tape was true, then why after calling in the tv networks tapes did the inquiry find it was a chunk of insulation that took out the shuttle and not a huge well hard ufo, how doe's this incident fit in to the freedom of information act????????

Jeez...Apache..that's a first for me...could it have been a bird? I'm not questioning you, just trying to get a clear picture in my mind. Or are you saying that the object you saw was the insulation?

The point is...somebody has the same footage that you do...will it ever be released under the FOIA...very doubtful...and why not?????
