also, just as an aside, i lived for a long time in boulder, colorado, where the onion originated, and i've always loved reading it. sometimes the humor falls a little flat, but occasionally it has had me rolling around laughing out loud.

yes. i swear on my life that i'm not mistaken, and i'm certainly not making it up. the reason the story sticks with me is that i was living in boulder (the place of origin for the onion) when someone told me about this unbelievable mistake by the chinese, and then several people corroborated the first person's facts. i remember that the chinese government got a notification from someone who was concerned about the implications for china of a parody news article in the onion, and the chinese government did not know nor did it find out in time that the onion was just a spoof paper, and it acted and made a statement related to what it believed was true. factual story!
