It's very funny that I had posted about this band last month saying how they were trying to bring to the world's attention, how difficult someone's life could become from alien abduction.
I did try to persuade people to possibly understand how good this band was and how awesome it is that they were taking a serious look at how this effects someone's life...
Recently, I "liked" Giorgio's page on facebook and noticed immediately, that when he's not talking about otherworldly things... he talks about and tweets about nothing but Marillion.
I have always thought for years that this was the greatest unknown band on the planet, and low and behold... it is his favorite too.
This is a new project for Marillion and It is called "Edison's Children", and it is the first time that Marillion have performed as a band together, outside of the "Marillion" name.
Bassist Pete Trewavas, is the ring leader and America's Eric Blackwood takes over on lead vocals, though Steve Hogarth still makes appearances at significant moments.
The CD "In The Last Waking Moments..." follows someone from their first moments of seeing something in the sky... to what happens next.
While it can be rather whimsical at times, the album hits a crescendo with the epic "The Awakening" in which the protagonist has been through quite an ordeal by now and is beginning to become isolated and withdrawn.
As he tries to talk to his family and friends for some comfort, they begin to ostracize him and "alienate" him.
Soon, he feels isolated as his "friends" and neighbors talk in whispers as he walks down the street and at the market. Soon he begins to doubt his own sanity... starting to believe his family
that perhaps he really is on a "quick descent into madness". By the end of the album... a chilling finale... we know exactly what really happened. I'm not going to give the whole thing away.
More info can be found at the band's website Edison's Children - In The Last Waking Moments... by Pete Trewavas and Eric Blackwood
This is no little band... this is a group that has been around over 30 years and while Edison's Children is a new "project" by them... they have already become #1 in New Artist Progressive Rock Scrobbles (plays on Last.FM and iTunes) in the entire world for over a month now. Again, they will at times take a somewhat whimsical look at alien abduction, but that is just to draw you in only to get real serious real fast and actually give you a very hard look at how people are trying to cope only to find that their closest human contacts "get weirded out", leaving them to face a very scary situation, alone. They believe something is happening out there and are urging us to realize that just because something seems too hard to believe, doesn't mean it's not also true... and even if you don't believe it at all... that doesn't mean that that person doesn't still need your help. They just need someone to talk too, and whether or not you truly believe it or not is irrelevant... they still need someone to talk to.
Very cool in my personal opinion. I hope you think so too. Thanks Giorgio for realizing how great Marillion and their new pet project Edison's Children really is and spreading the word!
