I believe people have had close encounters with extraterrestrials and even has been aboard space ships. However there are for sure many, many people that use information from abductees to invent a story of thier own. That's destroing the cedibility of true stories. It's not that easy. You can't say that -all- stories are fake, or caused by some psychological thing. It's not one thing. There are many different people, with many different experiences. It's -stupid- to define them all as one.
i understand you're frustration, RW, Clancy is ignoring quite a bit to come to her point.
So what exactly are the flaws in Clancies work?
I dont have time right now to read through the links, but can someone give a short summary?

"This research is interesting but has some severe limitations. The sample sizes used in each group were very small - 11, 9, and 13 respectively. Even more critically, the profile of the "recovered memory" group is flawed. The paper states, "None of the participants interviewed reported continuous memories of alien abduction (i.e., memories of alien abduction that were never forgotten) .... Memories were recovered both in therapy with the help of certain therapeutic techniques (e.g., hypnosis) and spontaneously, after reading books, watching movies, or seeing television shows depicting such episodes." In fact, there are a significant number of people reporting abductions who do not rely on hypnosis and other therapeutic techniques. Their memories are based on clearly recollected incidents for which they have no memory loss or delayed recalled." ~Bill Chalker
Not to mention the fact that multiple witness abductions such as the Walton case and the Allagash Four were not even considered. How were these study cases vetted I wonder?
Has anyone here actually read her book in its entirety or even in part? It seems like folks are in a big hurry to condemn her work simply because they don't agree with it and they haven't even read it. How is this different from the fundamentalist Christians who condemned The Last Temptation of Christ before the movie was ever screened?
In the case of that movie, the furor actually prompted more people to see the movie - the exact opposite reaction the protesters intended. By screaming so loudly about Clancy's work, aren't you inadvertently increasing its impact?

BTW, Coz, have you ever laid you hands on the actual book by Jane Lead or are you still relying on the interpretation of others?
I wonder if she is the Harvard rebuttal to John Mack?
Skeppy asked if anyone had read her book. I have not. One of the reasons I have not, is that I personally experienced encounters in the past and simply know the reality of the thing and no one will ever tell me different. The other is the fact that Harvard was extremely dissapproving of John Mack's work to the point of trying to remove him. McNally and Clancy are indeed Harvards rebuttal, one based on manipulated data, faulty methodology and sheer extreme bias going in. McNally was practically sneering on the Jennings UFO special. Clancy was a bit better. Of course, John Mack's last major in depth interview was left out of the show. Curious I think. Anyway, these two are the 1-2 punch of the exorcism of John Mack, Sleep Paralysis coupled with healthy doses of Media Influence.Originally posted by silverglance

After what Harvard did to Mack, does anybody here truly believe that these studies would have ever been completed if they ever expressed the slightest hint of confirmation that Mack may have been on to something. This would have been tantamount to commiting Academic Hari-Kari. Puh-leeeze.
And as I predicted in the other thread, these studies will be used as "proof" against the phenomenon repeatedly in the years to come.
Hail the Exorcist
Skeppy, if you read the threads I posted, you will see the reference to the source. The works of Jane Lead are completely available digitally here.

You will also discover that I have gone beyond the original article and indeed, have discovered even more commonalities with the experiencers of today, especially my own and others that I am connected to. You'll just have to take that at face value friend, not that it matters.
